Will I die today?

Will this crafted Armour protect me?

I wonder if the blacksmith who forged this
Is thinking of the men
Wearing his workmanship
On the battlefield.

The silence is deafening

Do these men beside me
Taste my fear as I do

I wonder if they are fighting for queen and country
Freedom
Or money

My heart is pounding

Please God
Make me brave

When the hot noise
And smoky breath of battle begins
Let this panic in me subside
And let me do what I am trained for

The air is tense with expectation

Will my blood run down
This shining breastplate
Or will it be
The signature
Of my foe
Defeated

Will I die today
Will I Die Today

We  were asked to write some poetry based on objects brought by other members of the writing group.
John (another one) had brought a breast plate from his collection of Armour
This was my effort .
